The project on Development Scenarios for Coordinated Operation of Cascade of Dams (see also previous post) was originally conceived only for the Eastern Nile. In the course of the project, the scope was expanded to the Equatorial Lake System as coordination regarding water storage and operation is an issue in the Lake Victoria region as well.
For this purpose, Dr. Hubert Lohr and Felix Froehlich of SYDRO Consult conducted a field trip and workshop in Uganda in the beginning of August 2019. The field trip included visits to the hydropower stations Karuma, Isimba, Bujagali, Nalubaale (formerly Owen Falls) and Kiira located along the Nile.
After the field trip, a workshop was held in Kampala with members of the Uganda Ministry of Water and Environment, UEGCL, UETCL and GIZ in order to discuss the issues at hand and the next steps in the project.
